Vancouver Chamber Choir: Song of Songs
Friday, January 27, 2012 8 pm
Ryerson United Church, 2195 West 45th Avenue (at Yew Street), Kerrisdale,Vancouver

The biblical Song of Songs (or Song of Solomon) is perhaps the most famous love poem of all time. It fascinated Palestrina and other Renaissance composers particularly because of its duality - as secular description of the Garden of Love and as sacred allegory of God's love for Israel, or Christ's love for the Church.

In this concert we will present 10 of Palestrina's magnificent motets and eight more by other great composers of the late Renaissance and Early Baroque eras.

Join J. Evan Kreider, Professor Emeritus UBC School of Music, at 7:10 pm for a pre-concert talk on the evening's music.

Tickets are $24.50 - $28, available at Ticketmaster. Student rush tickets are $10 when doors open one hour before the concert. Visit Ticketmaster.ca to purchase online or phone 1-855-985-ARTS (2787).
