Chor Leoni: Requiem A Concert with Orchestra

Chor Leoni is pleased to present a special concert under the direction of Assistant Conductor Kevin Zakresky and featuring the rarely heard Requiem in D Minor by Luigi Cherubini. Written for men’s voices and orchestra, the Requiem features soaring vocal lines and a sweeping orchestral score. EnChor Choir, directed by Diane Loomer, CMwill open the evening with a performance of Benjamin Britten’s mystical masterpiece for mixed choir and organ, Rejoice in the Lamb.

Vancouver Chamber Choir & Conductors from the National Conductors' Symposium
Musical Circles: Famous Families and Friends

Culminating the 32nd annual National Conductors' Symposium (NCS), the Vancouver Chamber Choir led by Jon Washburn and five Symposium conductors performs music from six famous "Musical Circles" - des Prez, Willaert, di Lasso; the Gabrielis and Schütz; the Scarlattis and Carissimi; Bach and his sons; the Haydns and Mozart; and the Schumanns and Brahms. A great evening of great music.

Selected and instructed by Jon Washburn, the NCS participants are Wei Cheng (Columbus, OH), Christopher Cheng (Hong Kong), Derrick Christian (Vancouver, BC), Chris Krampe (Mission, KS) and Andrew Schmidt (Princeton, NJ).

At 7:10, John William Trotter will present The Making of a Conductor, a pre-concert talk on the craft of conducting and the journey of conducting study using stories from his own experience as a participant of the National Conductors' Symposium.

The Ewasko Singers present Slava Bohu!: A Retrospective of Ukranian Sacred Music

Laurence Ewashko, Associate Professor of Music at the University of Ottawa, Choral Consultant for the NAC and Chorus Master for Opera Lyra Ottawa, formed the Ewashko Singers to be a select, flexible, semi-professional chamber choir to perform a wide range of classical and modern repertoire. As part of his sabbatical year, Professor Ewashko (of Ukrainian descent), traveled to Ukraine to conduct research in the archives and discovered a treasure trove of choral masterpieces.

MosaiK Choral Festival presents "African Stories"

The children's choirs of the Cross Town Youth Chorus (ages 5-15), the Ottawa Regional Youth Choir (ages 15-23) and the high school choir from École De La Salle, will join with adult choirs Musica Viva Singers, Tone Cluster, and Harmonia Choir of Ottawa, to present "African Stories" the finale concert of what is planned to be the first annual MosaiK Choral Festival sponsored by Harmonia Choir of Ottawa, and École secondaire publique de la Salle.

DaCapo: Creating Home Colour of Freedom

Our 2011-2012 season centres around the various aspects of "Home" and in February, our second concert of the season will explore how we can work together to create a home for all. 
      
Creating Home will feature Colour of Freedom by Iman Habibi, with guest vocalist Amir Haghighi - an Iranian-Canadian who specializes in traditional Persian style singing. Both Iman and Amir will be joining us from Vancouver, B.C. and audience members will have a chance to meet and mingle with the composer and singer at our post-concert receptions.

The Colour of Freedom is based on text by Marina Nemat, the celebrated author of Prisoner of Tehran, who will also be joining us for the Sunday afternoon concert.

Nova Voce: Viva Nova Voce! Annual Fundraiser

To help make it possible for choir members to travel to Italy this summer, we are holding a fundraising event "Viva Nova Voce!" on Saturday, February 25th at 7:30 pm, Maritime Museum of the Atlantic. One of Nova Voce's most vocal supporters and biggest fans, CBC's Olga Milosevich, will MC the evening. Please add your support too and plan to join us for this fun evening, as Nova Voce prepares to take the Nova Scotian flag and tartan to Italy.
