Since 2007, the Centre for Opera Studies in Italy has offered elite training to emerging opera professionals. Starting with the 2011 summer training session in Sulmona, Italy, they will be auditioning for 20 to 24 chorus positions. Both professional and amateur singers are welcome.
Chorus members will travel to Sulmona for 5 weeks, where they will work daily with esteemed chorus directors. Our 2011 faculty will include Ken Fleet of the University of Western Ontario Faculty of Music and the London Pro Musica, and Roberto Gabbiani, chorus master for Ricardo Muti at La Scala.
In addition, chorus members will rehearse staging with renowned director Tom Diamond and conductor Kevin Mallon. The operas will be performed at least four times in Sulmona and surrounding towns in the beautiful Valle Peligna region, situated in the Apennine Mountains east of Rome.
The singers will also participate in COSI’s Academy of Singing, with a weekly voice lesson, master classes and solo performances throughout the area.
The tuition fee (yet to be finalized) will cover instruction plus accommodation in a local pensione plus two meals per day. Students will pay for their own travel, a third meal, and sundry expenses.
Auditions will take place this fall in nine cities across Canada. Please contact Administrative Coordinator, Bethany Solheim (centreforoperasulmona@gmail.com) for more information or visit the COSI website at www.co-si.com
