From Musicfest Vancouver: The Vancouver Cantata Singers in Mendelssohn’s “Te Deum”
We don't always think of Felix Mendelssohn as a great choral composer . Other than his famous oratorio Elijah, most of us would be hard pressed to name any of his other choral works. However, the Vancouver Cantata Singers have decided to change all that. This Sunday on Choral Concert you’ll hear them do an all-Mendelssohn program that was part of Music Fest Vancouver.
In celebration of the 200th anniversary of the Mendelssohn’s birth, this concert features Mendelssohn's magnificent Te Deum, his early masterpiece for double choir and continuo. Also on the program were some beautiful choral works from late in Mendelssohn's life.
You’ll also hear some wonderful new discs from Toronto’s Victoria Scholars and the Ensemble Caprice in their Juno award winning performance of Vivald’s Gloria.
