Giants of the Baroque – Bach and Handel
This week on Choral Concert Peter Togni brings us two great composers that defined the baroque era: Bach and Handel.
These two giants were both born in 1685, and with Bach’s intensity, poetry and deep intelligence contrasted by Handel’s grandiose, but direct and immediate passion the two men offer a comprehensive panorama of one the greatest periods in musical history.
You will hear highlights from Handel’s oratorio Israel in Egypt in a live concert with the BBC singers, plus a sneak peak of Tafelmusik’s upcoming release of the Messiah.
From J.S. Bach you will hear his famous cantata Wachet Auf with the Bach choir of Bethlehem, and Sheep May Safely Graze with the Elmer Iseler Singers.
Don’t forget that CBCMUSIC.CA has lots to offer for classical music lovers, there are 10 classical streams, available 24 / 7. You can also check out the Choral Concert blog plus extensive videos and concerts in all genres.
