An extraordinary concert by the Ewashko Singers entitled “Great Hymnody of Slavic Choral Masters” will be performed on Sunday, March 14th, 2010, at 4:00 p.m. at the First Unitarian Congregation of Ottawa, 30 Cleary Avenue, Ottawa, Ontario.
The Ewashko Singers will be presenting an afternoon of sacred choral works, including songs from Pyotr Tchaikovsky’s All-Night Vigil, Op. 52, as well as works by Victor Kalinnikov, Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov and others. The Ewashko Singers has previously been heard on Radio-Canada singing Slavic repertoire. This summer they will be travelling to Italy to perform at St. Mark’s Basilica in Venice, St. Maria de Ricci in Florence, and St. Maria Sopra Cathedral in Rome.
The group is conducted by Laurence Ewashko, a highly respected choral clinician, vocal coach, and adjudicator, and an Associate Professor of Choral Studies at the University of Ottawa. A former conductor of the Vienna Boys’ Choir, Mr. Ewashko regularly prepares choruses for performances by conductors such as Sir Colin Davis, Trevor Pinnock, Gabriel Chmura, and Pinchas Zukerman.
A concert by the highly-skilled and versatile Ewashko Singers is an event not to be missed. We would be most honoured to have you attend our concert and enjoy a delightful afternoon of works that represent the Orthodox choral school of the early 20th Century.
This is a fund raising event for the First Unitarian Congregation of Ottawa. Tickets are $25, $15 for students and seniors, or pay what you can. Tickets are available in advance at the church office and at The Leading Note, 370 Elgin St., Ottawa (613-569-7888), and at the door on the day of the performance.
