Just in time for the holidays, the internationally-acclaimed Amadeus Choir (www.amadeuschoir.com) is pleased to announce the winners of its 24th annual Christmas Carol and Chanukah Song Writing Competition. This year's competition, which was open to children and youth, attracted a diverse range of submissions from across the GTA and beyond.
14-year old Heather Buisman, a grade nine student from Guelph, won first place in the category Child 13-14 years, for her original composition, Angel Choirs. She is proud to continue the family tradition for choral excellence as her sister Sarah has also won the competition in the past. Julia Naus, a 10-year old Scarborough resident, took home first place for her winning composition titled, On That Night, in the category Child 10-12 years. Finally, eight-year old Francesca Hauser of Markham was awarded first place for her composition, On One Holy Night, in the category Child under 10 years.
"We are so excited to be able to recognize these budding young composers. The quality of submissions was exceptional and we thank all entrants for their hard work and creativity," said Lydia Adams, Conductor and Artistic Director of the Amadeus Choir.
In addition to receiving a cash prize of $100, each of the winner's works were performed on Saturday, December 18, when the choir presented its concert, Sing with the Angels, at the Metropolitan United Church.
