SMAM presents: “The Monteverdi Vespers of 1610”
This week on Choral Concert Peter Togni brings you Studio Musique Ancienne de Montreal, performing the Vespers of the Blessed Virgin Mary of 1610 by Claudio Monteverdi, “one of the most spellbinding, heartwarming, and sensuous works from any composer” according to Peter Togni. Perfect for the first Sunday of 2011.
It’s the most ambitious sacred work to have been written before J.S. Bach. From the Church of Notre Dame de Bon Secours in Montreal, the performance also includes musicians from the ensemble Montreal Baroque.
