Greenwoof Singers Announces 32nd. Season

Greenwood Singers, under the direction of its founder and music director Robert de Frece, announces its 2011-2012 Season.  This is the choir’s 32nd Season and once again, it will have the choir performing Choral Music from Renaissance to Broadway both in the a cappella style and by teaming up with various Edmonton artists.
Greenwood Singers continues its 31-year tradition of exploring the varied facets of music for the Christmas Season with the 2011 edition of The Many Moods of Christmas on Monday, December 12, 2011 at 8:00 PM at First Presbyterian Church (10025 105 Street).  From the motets of Renaissance Europe to sparkling arrangements of beloved Christmas carols to favourite popular holiday songs, you won’t want to miss this annual musical celebration of Christmas.  The choir will be accompanied by pianist, Helen Stuart, and organist, Marnie Giesbrecht.  The program will also include the lively music making of the University of Alberta Faculty of Education Handbell Ringers.  This concert is proudly presented by Snyder & Associates LLP, CKUA Radio and Vue Weekly.  Tickets are $20 for Adults and $18 for Students/Seniors and are available from TIX on the Square (9930 102 Avenue) 780.420.1757 or www.tixonthesquare.ca, choir members and at the door.

Greenwood Singers presents All Things English on Friday, April 13, 2012 at All Saints' Anglican Cathedral (10035 103 Street) at 8:00 PM.  Each spring since 1981, Greenwood Singers has presented a program of choral music from Renaissance to Broadway.  In All Things English, the choir will take you on a journey that begins with the sacred and secular music of the Elizabethan age.  This musical voyage will include part songs by Elgar and Vaughan Williams and lush arrangements of English folk songs.  The program will conclude with lively selections from Cole Porter’s Kiss Me, Kate — the award-winning Broadway musical based on Shakespeare’s The Taming of the Shrew.

As well, Greenwood Singers will once again share its musical talents for the reflective Hymns and Readings for Christmas on Sunday, December 11, 2011 at St. Joseph’s Basilica (10044 113 Street) at 7:30 PM.  This evening is sponsored by St. Joseph’s College – the Catholic-affiliated College at the University of Alberta – and has become an annual event for Greenwood Singers.  Tickets are $10 and are available from St. Joseph’s College, by calling 780.492.7681 ext. 231 and at the door.
