Lift Your Voices: The Amadeus Choir Presents 2011-12 Concert Season

The internationally-recognized Toronto-based Amadeus Choir (www.amadeuschoir.com), celebrating its 37th anniversary season in 2011-12, is pleased to announce their 2011–2012 subscription concert series. Highlights of the season will include Karl Jenkins’ The Armed Man: A Mass for Peace along with the Hannaford Street Silver Band on November 12; Glorious Sounds of the Season featuring the winners of the Seasonal Song Writing Competition on December 17; an exciting collaboration with the Elmer Iseler Singers to present Rodion Shchedrin’s moving music drama, The Sealed Angel, on February 3, 2012 and a celebration of Dr. Roberta Bondar’s 20th anniversary of flight in space with Music of the Spheres: A Fusion of Music, Art and Science on April 21.

Subscription orders for the entire concert series are being accepted until November 11 with subscribers receiving substantial savings over single ticket purchasers. Subscriptions are priced at $120 for adults, $99 for seniors and $40 for students (including HST) and are available through the Amadeus Choir office at 416-446-0188.
On Saturday, November 12, the choir presents Karl Jenkins’ The Armed Man: A Mass for Peace along with the Hannaford Street Silver Band at the Metropolitan United Church (56 Queen Street East) at 8 p.m.  Tickets are priced at $45 for adults, $40 for seniors and $15 for students (including HST) and are available through the St. Lawrence Centre Box Office at 416-366-7723 or 1-800-708-6754, and online at www.stlc.com.

Just in time for the holidays, the choir presents Glorious Sounds of the Season on Saturday, December 17, at the Yorkminster Park Baptist Church (1585 Yonge Street) at 7:30 p.m.  The concert celebrates the 25th anniversary of the Seasonal Song Writing Competition and will feature the winning compositions along with other holiday favourites, as well as an appearance by the Bach Children’s Chorus.  Tickets are priced at $40 for adults, $30 for seniors and $15 for students (including HST) and are available through the Amadeus Choir office at 416-446-0188.

The new year sees the choir joining forces with the Elmer Iseler Singers to present Rodion Shchedrin’s moving music drama, The Sealed Angel, on Friday, February 3, in Koerner Hall at The Telus Centre for Performance and Learning (273 Bloor Street West) at 8 p.m.  The concert, a Soundstreams production, will also include a new choreography by ProArteDanza.  Tickets are priced from $42 and are available through The Royal Conservatory Weston Family Box Office at 416-408-0208, and online at www.rcmusic.ca.

On the eve of Earth Day, Saturday, April 21, the choir celebrates Dr. Roberta Bondar’s 20th anniversary of flight in space with Music of the Spheres: A Fusion of Music, Art and Science in the Procter & Gamble Great Hall at the Ontario Science Centre (770 Don Mills Road) at 8 p.m.  This is a co-production of the Amadeus Choir, Elmer Iseler Singers, The Roberta Bondar Foundation and the Ontario Science Centre.  Tickets are priced at $40 for adults, $35 for seniors and $15 for students (including HST) and are available for a limited time through the Amadeus Choir office at 416-446-0188.

About the Amadeus Choir
The Amadeus Choir is celebrating its 37th anniversary season in 2011-12.  The 80 auditioned members of the choir perform a regular subscription concert series in Toronto, presenting well-known artists in works by Canadian and international composers, including major choral works with instrumental ensembles or full orchestra as well as challenging a cappella performances.
