Easter Sunday with Bach’s B minor Mass and Handel’s Messiah
This Sunday we continue with a Choral Concert Easter Sunday tradition: a performance of J.S. Bach’s great Mass in B minor. However, we will also re-kindle another tradition: that is to celebrate Easter with Handel’s famous oratorio Messiah. You will be hearing highlights of both pieces.
The B minor Mass is considered by many critics and scholars as one greatest masterpiece of western civilization. It certainly is the culmination of a lifetime of extraordinary work by one of our most respected composers, and this week’s performance is truly extraordinary and not to be missed. You will hear an incredible performance by the Amsterdam Orchestra and Chorus.
You will also hear highlights of the great and wonderful Messiah by George Frederic Handel, in another stellar performance with Canada’s Tafelmusik Baroque Orchestra.
Ever wondered why there is a tradition of standing up in the Halleluiah Chorus of the Messiah? Check out the Choral Concert blog on CBCMUSIC.CA and weigh in with your vote on what you do with our listener’s poll.
Choral Concert: The Easter Edition runs this Sunday from 9 to 11 a.m. (9:30 - 11:30 NT) on CBC Radio 2.
