CBC music and the ACCC National Competition for Canadian Amateur Choirs
This week on Choral Concert we are celebrating a new way for you to hear more great choral music on CBCmusic.ca.
The ACCC National Competition for Amateur Choirs and CBC music are getting together to host this year’s competition, and every choir that enters will be creating a artist page on CBCmusic.ca. That means you will be able to hear all the music each choir submits to the competition.
It will be a feast of Canadian choral music on CBC music.
To celebrate this new collaboration, this Sunday Peter Togni will bring you a slate of winners of the competition from past years, you’ll hear Chor Leoni, the Victoria Scholars, Spiritus Chamber Choir, the Toronto Children’s chorus – and a whole lot more.
You’ll also hear some of the recent nominees in the choral category in the 2013 edition of the Junos; The Elora Festival Singers and the Tafelmusik chamber choir.

fikamusik: Summer Choral Conducting Intensive July 17—23, 2013 Desautels Faculty of Music – University of Manitoba
Fikamusik refers to an approach to professional development for choral conductors which centres on the formation of self and community while pursuing individual musical growth. The format of the program is highly interactive, and is structured with the goal of making connections between multiple facets of choral musicianship. Daily activities include lecture sessions that cover aspects of vocal techniques and performance practice such as resonance, diction, and repertoire selection. Participants will be introduced to innovative rehearsal techniques, advanced gesture and body mapping principles, and will conduct a professional ensemble.
In addition to a focus on skill development, the course is structured around the collaborative exploration of personal musical narratives at regular coffee sessions, or fika, during which conductors are invited to share their experiences and come to articulate their assumptions, beliefs, values, and understandings regarding the practice of choral conducting. The hope is to create a learning environment which is supportive and collaborative, yet challenging and enriching for professionals and educators alike.
University of Manitoba faculty are Dr. Catherine Robbins and Dr. Elroy Friesen.

Baroque Choral Classics
This Sunday on Choral Concert Peter Togni will bring you some of the most beautiful choral music ever created from one of the most creative eras in musical history – the Baroque period.
The Baroque came roughly after the Renaissance and it refers to the ornate, beautiful structures that were created by geniuses like Bach, Handel, Purcell and Vivaldi, and this is what Peter will bring you on Sunday morning – all of these composers at their creative peak. You’ll hear excerpts of the Bach B minor mass, Handel’s Messiah, Vivaldi’s Gloria and Purcell’s wonderful anthem "Rejoice in the Lord Always".
