Vancouver Chamber Choir: The Love that Moves the Universe

Jon Washburn will lead the Vancouver Chamber Choir, Pacifica Singers, Trinity Western University Chamber Choir and the Vancouver Chamber Orchestra in the Good Friday concert THE LOVE THAT MOVES THE UNIVERSE at 8pm, April 2 at the Orpheum Theatre, 601 Smithe Street at Seymour Street in downtown Vancouver. The performance will feature the premiere of R. Murray Schafer’s The Love that Moves the Universe, and two intimate masterpieces by Schubert and Mozart.
This programme will include four masters. Three are among the Choir’s favourite composers from three musical epochs: Classical (Mozart), Romantic (Schubert) and Modern (Schafer). The fourth master is Dante Alighieri, the 14th century Italian author of The Divine Comedy.
Dante provided the text of the atmospheric new work for choir and strings by brilliant Canadian composer Schafer (pictured at left). Based on selections from Dante’s Volume III - Paradiso - the new piece is entitled The Love that Moves the Universe. It will be another world premiere, and the third of the Vancouver Chamber Choir’s six 40th anniversary commissions supported by the Arts Partners in Creative Development.

Join John William Trotter for a pre-concert talk at 7:05pm.
