Vancouver's Chor Leoni Men's Choir is accepting applications for the position of Assistant Conductor

The Choir:
Vancouver's Chor Leoni Men's Choir was formed in 1992 by its current Artistic Director, Diane Loomer, C.M., whose goal was to create an internationally recognized male choir capable of performing music of the highest calibre.  By virtue of its consistently outstanding performances of challenging repertoire, the widespread distribution and sales of its CDs, and its eight first-place wins in CBC's National Choral Competition, the choir's reputation has soared to the point where Chor Leoni now occupies a position of pre-eminence in the male choral world.

The assistant conductor will work under and report to the Artistic Director (AD), directing when requested and providing general musical assistance.  Primary responsibilities will include:
Learning all repertoire being sung by the Choir for each concert
Attending all rehearsals and performances, conducting selected rehearsals and sectionals as requested by the AD
Directing smaller ensembles as needed, assisting in selecting repertoire, rehearsing and conducting all or part of ensemble performances as requested by the AD
Assisting the AD with auditions
Keeping current with new TTBB choral repertoire and collaborating with the AD on programming when requested
Providing assistance with score markings and preparations, and program notes as needed
Assisting staff with concert-related logistics as needed
Assisting the librarian as needed
Advocating on behalf of the Choir at community and cultural events
In the event that the successful applicant is a male singer capable of choral singing at an advanced level, it is preferable that they also perform as a member of the choir

The qualifications:
Choral conducting experience, advanced knowledge of conducting and rehearsal techniques
Minimum of an undergraduate degree in music or equivalent experience
Experience in choral arranging
Piano skills sufficient to support choral conducting
Training and experience in applied vocal technique
Familiarity with current TTBB choral repertoire
Excellent verbal, written and computer skills
Strong organisational skills
Ability to work as a member of team
Good sense of humour

The job description:
This is a part-time position (on the order of 10-12 hours/week for a 40 week season), and will be on a two year contract, subject to review after four months.  The position is expected to be filled for the September 2010 start of the choral season.  Auditions and interviews are proposed for May 07-09, 2010.  Remuneration is commensurate with qualifications and experience.
