If there is any event that reinforces the idea that choirs are the soul of our communities, Festival 500 is it. The biennial event has become a magnet for choirs from Newfoundland and Labrador, across Canada and around the world. 23 choirs, 775 participants, conductors, clinicians, workshops and venues spread out across the city. For a week the city pulses with the sound of singing, it’s a true choral paradise!
On Sunday, April 25th 2010, 9:00 - 11:00 am, (9:30 - 11:30 NT) on CBC Radio 2, Choral Concert we’ll hear an encore broadcast of the highlights recorded at the Arts and Culture Centre and Gower Street United Church in St. John's.
Peter Togni will also continue his count down to the National Competition for Canadian Amateur Choirs. This year it is being sponsored by the Association of Canadian Choral Communities. The finalists in all 12 categories have been announced and over the next 6 weeks we will be highlighting as many as we can. This week we’ll hear the Victoria Scholars, a male voice choir based in Mississauga, Ontario.
The winners in all 12 categories will be announced on Choral Concert on Sunday, May 23rd
