Artistic Director Jon Washburn and the Vancouver Chamber Choir are pleased to celebrate the 30th annual presentation of the National Conductors’ Symposium with a concert of choruses from choral masterworks. MASTERPIECE will be at 8pm Saturday, May 8 at Ryerson United Church, Vancouver with the workshop’s five participants as guest conductors and Stephen Smith, piano.
Each guest conductor receives significant time working with Canada’s premier vocal ensemble, the Vancouver Chamber Choir, during five days of intensive masterclasses. Always a season highlight, the NCS concert provides a forum to display newly developed choral techniques, conducting gestures and score interpretation.
Selected and instructed by Jon Washburn, the NCS participants are Charissa Bagan (Vancouver, BC), Fiona Blackburn (Maple Ridge, BC), Sean Burton (Sioux City, Iowa), Kimberley Schultz (Colorado Springs, Colorado), and Carrie Tennant (Vancouver, BC).
As a finale, Jon Washburn and the five Symposium conductors present this concert of music from an all-star team of composers - Bach, Handel, Monteverdi, Mozart, Haydn, Beethoven, Brahms, Wagner, Britten, Raminsh, Willan and Orff. Always one of the most intriguing concerts of the season.
