Vancouver's Chor Leoni Men's Choir is pleased to announce the appointment of Kevin Zakresky as Assistant Conductor. A recent graduate of the MMA program in Choral Conducting at Yale University, Kevin was born in Saskatchewan and grew up in northern British Columbia. He attended the University of British Columbia, where he received a BMus in Voice, with an undergraduate concentration in voice, conducting, and collaborative piano, and an MMus in Choral Conducting. While at UBC he receive the UBC School of Music Medal and he won the UBC Concerto Competition in 2005. His conducting credits include operas, choruses, operettas, and musical theatre. He is also an Associate of the Royal Conservatory in Toronto in piano performance.
Kevin has sung with Chor Leoni in the past and the "choir of lions" is glad to welcome back one of their own. "We are most excited about Kevin coming to work with us," says choir President, Bob Rankin. "Along with his conducting talent, he is a fine singer and accompanist and knows Chor Leoni well."
Diane Loomer, Artistic Director of the ensemble is equally enthusiastic. "For both the choir and myself, it will be a real pleasure and treat to have Kevin with us and at my side as Chor Leoni's Assistant Conductor," she says. "He brings such strong musicianship, excellent experience in teaching and academic discipline, wonderful piano and vocal skills, and to add to all of that, a great sense of humor (an essential attribute for this men's choir!) With great anticipation we welcome Kevin back to Vancouver."
Zakresky returns to Vancouver this month and will assume his duties with Chor Leoni in time for the 2010/11 season.
